Why Young Living Essential Oils?

Many people come to essential oils when nothing else works … that was me. It took some convincing because I thought they were “snake oils.” Others are looking for natural, healthy, nontoxic alternatives to manage their health … that was me, too. The one reason I started using essential oils is because I needed to support my immune system in alternative ways to avoid antibiotic use.

Choosing Young Living was easy for me because in my research, I found their essential oils to be the best. When I began to see how effectively they worked for so many things, I completed an essential oils coaching certification program and enrolled into an Aromatherapy certification course of study through Aromahead Institute.

I’m confident I made the right choice for my wellness journey because essential oils have been used for thousands of years to support health and improve well-being. They are not actually oils; they are plant extracts that come from the essences naturally excreted by plants to ward off pests and disease. The aromatic properties of each oil affect each person differently based on their needs, and 30% of prescription drugs in the United States are based on naturally occurring compounds from plants.

Three Ways to Use Essential Oils

The three ways listed are general categories and include a few of many how-to suggestions.

  1. Inhalation: diffusing; cupping/tenting; smelling out of the bottle
  2. Topically: mixed with a carrier oil (recommended); neat (without a carrier oil)
  3. Internally: with the guidance of an essential oils coach, aromatherapist, or clinical aromatherapist

To Ingest or Not to Ingest

Arguments happen when people start talking about whether to use essential oils internally or not. My answer to this is always to say: “Do you your research. Educate yourself. Find someone you trust to help you along the way.”

If you plan to ingest essential oils, I recommend Young Living’s Vitality Line for many reasons, but these are my top three.

  1. The FDA recognizes this line as GRAS (Generally Recommended as Safe).
  2. Young Living’s essential oils are not fractionally distilled or rectified, meaning their chemical constituents are not diluted and chemical constituents are not added to batches. If the batch doesn’t pass Young Living’s tests, it’s not sold.
  3. Young Living’s Seed-to Seal promise guarantees you get the purest plant essence possible. Young Living non-GMO seeds are planted in organic soil that has been pesticide free for 50+ years or has never seen pesticide use, and they use their essential oils to control pests. They also have over 100 tests for purity starting in their fields, then in their independent labs, and in cooperation with third-party agencies as well.

I’ve used many other essential oils. Most have a cooling smell like the aftertaste of a sugar alcohol. Young Living essential oils don’t have that smell or feeling on my skin, and they are strong by comparison; that’s why it’s important to educate yourself when you start using them. They are also far more potent than dried herbs. It’s the distillation process that makes them so concentrated.

When you hear stories about people who have injured themselves using essential oils, it’s because they were not properly educated, didn’t take the time to educate themselves, or took the advice from someone who wasn’t properly educated.

They didn’t understand the potency of what they were using.

If you plan to use essential oils in any way, it’s important to take the time to educate yourself and find someone you trust to help you understand all the fascinating ways essential oils can enhance your wellness journey.

Resources for Essential Oil Education

I recommend starting with the nine people listed below. That’s what I did. From the resources listed, you will learn all you need and want to know to understand essential oils and how they work.

If you don’t want to get into all the study, find someone you trust that is and does and has, and ask them all the questions you have.

Recommended References to Start

  1. Robert Tisserand – Essential Oil Safety and Chemistry: a must have for any oiler.
  2. Dr. Eric Zielinski and his wife Sabrina (aka Dr. Z & Mama Z) – condition specific practical applications and healthy lifestyle.
  3. Dr. Josh Axe – same as 1 and 2 above and essential oil education; user-friendly, approachable content with a comprehensive website.
  4. Valerie Ann Worwood – The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy: the most comprehensive reference book on essential oils out there.
  5. Andrea Butje – all the above plus mind, body, spirit connection – A leader and pioneer in the art of aromatherapy – started Aromahead Institute.
  6. Jen O’Sullivan – all the above plus an expert at YL product and supplement; Quality training in her Facebook group: The Human Body and Essential Oils.
  7. Dr. Lindsey Elmore – the best for pharmacology of essential oils and how they work. Outside of my aromatherapy courses, I learn a lot from her.
  8. Dr. Doug Corrigan – Multiple books on DNA and how essential oils work. I have all his books and take all his training. He’s the best for the how-to of science and breaks it down to the molecular level in a way anyone can understand. Same with Lindsey Elmore.
  9. Lea Jacobson – Lea is a wealth of knowledge on essential oil safety. I’ve been visiting her website for a year now. Lots of priceless freebies on her site, too. I’m studying with her now in her Essential Oils Safety Academy.

When you purchase essential oils, I also recommend choosing the purest and most natural option that is Young Living. You get more for your money using Young Living’s essential oils because they are so potent, you use less. Many of the less expensive essential oils in grocery stores are adulterated with synthetic chemicals that are not good for your body. Some have natural additives, but that means they are not pure essences directly from the plants: they are rectified and therefore not as potent or natural.

It’s Young Living all the way in our household.

Pure-Natural-Nontoxic. The only way!
